Embroidery Designs by Caoilfhionn COMMENTARY: Both design below are from 11th century Norwegian windvanes because of the appropriate shape and the fact that both could be turned into griffins. The extant pieces of Norse embroidery are few and far between, and the only ones that even remotely support the Anglo-Saxon interlace idea are from the mid-10th century. Embroidered work through the 12th and 13th centuries exists only in a series of wall hangings that resemble the Bayeux Tapestry in technique and narrative form. Thora Sharptooth covers the topic well and quickly at http://www.vassar.edu/~capriest. We can create these out of period materials, with period techniques, but all the research I've done shows no solid support for interlace embroidery on cushions. This is a brave extrapolation of the little we know.Click on the pictures for a bigger view The following designs for the Leather Circles were submitted by Mistress Margaret Malise of Kyrkyntolaghe (Click on the link for a picture for a much larger view) Designs for Wood panels The following designs for the panels were submitted by Mistress Margaret Malise of Kyrkyntolaghe (Click on the link for a picture for a much larger view) Motto to be carved into the leather
