Manacles, like those above, seem to have been present for at least the last 400 years, though the actual age seems to be in debate among historians. The chain between the manacles is an even more debatable point. Chain links were difficult to make in early periods and the idea of using them on a simple prisoner seems of questionable historical accuracy. The links in the above chain are a made from a lightweight zinc plated steel. The cuff are made from 1/8 by 3/4 inch steel. Because the cuffs had to fit a prisoner precisely to avoid escape, many sizes were available. Please specify wrist circumference when ordering.
